The thoughts IKEA-founder Ingvar Kamprad presented in his I-have-a-dream-speech at the opening of the new IKEA superstore in Haparanda/Tornio on Nov 15th 2006, were in great parts based on the already well known vision of his company IKEA.
And IKEA´s vision was almost identical with the official view of the Barents Region, presented by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, in Kirkenes, Norway.
The ambitions of IKEA and of the Barents Cooperation were much the same; both of them promising people a better life.

3. The vision
- I hope that Haparanda/Tornio can become a special center of the Barents Region. For the finish, swedish, norwegian, russian and sami people; the Five-people-region. I have a dream to create a meeting point between the different countries and peoples.
